Big News from Lawrence Lessig

Larry is having some trouble with his blog so I am posting this important news from him on his behalf. – Joi It is with a complicated mix of excitement and sadness that I make the following announcement. As some of you remember, just over a year ago I reported that I was shifting my academic (and activist) work from free culture related issues to (what I called) “corruption.” At Stanford, a year ago, I outlined what this work would be: To focus on the many institutions in public life that dep

Father Oleksa dares to speak the truth about the dirty secret of education in rural Alaska.

For 100 years, Native Alaskans went to a school where their own language was forbidden, their history and culture benignly ignored or violently demeaned, denigrated, even persecuted. I’ve spent the last bit caught in a purgatory of sorts… York U’s teaching assistants are on strike which has suspended classes at the university. I’ve been taking care of bedridden Sa who has a broken foot and has now come down with the flu on top of it. As much as I can, I’ve been watching Craigslist job postings and getting in to and out for interviews, but that’s had the usual set of stupid obstacles.

Pssst… Read This If You Want Your Child to Become a Better Student

There are many actions parents can take to help children become better students and achieve higher grades at school:  staying in touch with teachers; checking homework after it is finished, reviewing the work children bring home after it has been graded, providing a set time and location for work to be completed, and discussing over dinner what your children learned that day in the classroom.  Fortunately one of the most powerful research supported actions is an easy one to accomplish – esta

Shacking Up…With Papa

Ever noticed how God seems to weave our lives in a complex tapestry?

Lumiere & Company

Directed by: Sarah Moon Featuring: David Lynch, John Boorman, Wim Wenders, Costa Gravas, Spike Lee, Lasse Hallstrom, Peter Greenaway and Arthur Penn (this is a list of the unpretentious, non-French directors featured) Year: 1995 Well, this is going to be short.
